Rosemary Low has written a new book titled: A Century of Parrots

The culture of the early part of the century contrasts with that of the last years. On the one hand, the increased popularity of parrots resulted in species being trapped almost to extinction for the pet trade while, at the same time, throughout the tropics, parrot conservation projects were increasing in number and importance. During the course of a century the profile of parrots had been raised from bird-brained mimics to avian masterminds; furthermore, as flagship species of the tropics, the presence of macaws and other parrots was protecting hundreds of thousands of square miles of rainforest. "Pretty Polly" was at last being taken seriously. Rosemary tells a fascinating story
